You’ve probably seen those touch display videos on Youtube, well it seems like Microsoft has one of their own called “Surface“

As far as I’m concerned, if AVID and Microsoft developed their software to use in editing, it would be brilliant. “Surface” is interesting, but will be limited in the consumer market. For business uses, like editing, this could be easily adapted technology that would put artistry back into the hands of editors, who get squashed with all the technical nuances of the editing process.
This is only the “surface” of this type of technology. It’s been around for years in other forms. You’re just using more of your hands to communicate with the technology.
Sure businesses can benefit from this, but we’ve been so accustomed with using a mouse and keyboard to do our bidding in the world of computers that it’ll take time to get used to something new. I really don’t see this type of technology replacing keyboards and mouse, more like an addition to our peripherals. And can you image what new challenges this may bring up for accessibility and usability?
