So here at Critical Mass, we’re hosting a company wide contest to see who can come on top in 5 different search engines with a particular set keywords.
Do I plan of entering? Why not?
What’s the keyword? I do not wish to say (my reason below), but I’m sure you can find it on some other people’s blog. *cough Geoff*
Already we’ve got some results coming, months before the contest deadline is due. Now, I’m no SEO expert here. I only know a handful of tricks that gives one a good start, but nothing close to someone like Jim.
So why not list the keyword here? Well, if I enter the contest, I don’t want to rely on my blog, or any other form incoming links that I just don’t find relative such as Digg, MySpace, Yahoo Group, etc. I mean, sure having a Yahoo group (which has already been taken) will help boost my rank in Yahoo, but…I don’t find that to be the most effective way to bring up my page in the results. If I were to sell running shoes, do I need to create a MySpace profile, or ask people to Digg my page so I can rank higher? No. I find that really…unprofessional. Sounds more desperate than Glenn Quagmire.
So what’s my plan? Well, I don’t know just yet. I’m sure I’ll figure something out. It’s already interesting what people are coming up with. Perhaps I should create some sort of boy band website or…no…I’m sure I’ll figure it out.

is this just an internal contest?
It is…but really, the way I look at it…what’s stopping anyone from outside the company jumping into the competition for fun?
