Yahoo! User Interface Library

YUI for short.

What is YUI?

The Yahoo! User Interface (YUI) Library is a set of utilities and controls, written in JavaScript, for building richly interactive web applications using techniques such as DOM scripting, DHTML and AJAX. The YUI Library also includes several core CSS resources. All components in the YUI Library have been released as open source under a BSD license and are free for all uses.

I’ve started playing around with Yahoo!’s framework. I’ve got to admit, that’s quite a lot of work put into this framework. Since I’ve only began scratching the surface of this behemoth, I can’t really give an in depth explanation or an overview for that matter. It’s just…so much information. Mind you, I’m not expert at JavaScript, but I do find it pretty interesting. Especially when it comes to animations.

So far the top 3 sections that I have found the most appealing would be

  • Animations
  • Drag & Drops
  • Menus

All this makes me want to go updated the CM Portal that I was tasked with last year. There’s so much I want to add but haven’t had the time, and well…I’ve been told to pass it onto the next person who’s taking care of most of the internal things at work. But I doubt that’ll stop me from slipping in a few scripts here and there ;)
