I don't really express too much about myself on the web. So in this digital world, I'm pretty unknown. For those who stumble upon my site, welcome. My name is Nick Simonsen and I guess this is where I end up opening the door for you to my world. Actually, on second thought, I think I would rather just leave the door cracked open a tiny bit. No need to know everything about me.![]()
Developer by day
I currently work at Critical Mass, an interactive firm that's produced outstanding work in the past ten years. My role as a web developer started at Critical Mass in late April 2006, working mainly on maintenance on our corporate website. I was also put on some internal projects such as our Intranet Portal. As I worked, I continued to advance my skill set as well as learn new ones. I soon found myself doing some client work on the redesigned Rolex site and now I'm on the Mercedes Benz account.
A firm start
Even though I'm a web developer at Critical Mass, I still like to enjoy life outside of a computer. There's a lot more that I do than sit in front of a computer all day and build out websites. I'm into trying out new sports, photography, food, and time to time - video games. More or less, just activies where I can take my mind off of a bright screen and let my brain turn its gear in a whole different direction.
Sporting goods
I used to play competitive soccer. I played for 12 consecutive years. I would say I was pretty good at it. It was fun while it lasted. All those nutmegs and award winning dives...not that I faked that many. College quickly put an end to my long streak. I didn't think I was going to make it big anyways. I've recently have taken up snowboarding again. Been out of it for 8 years now. I was able to get my niece and nephew into it also. But most of the time, I like to either go swimming or play some squash.
Amateur photographer
I've had this interest in taking snapshot photos since high school. Now that I've upgraded from a my 2.0 MP PoweShow A60 (which is currently a hand-me-down to my niece ha ha), I'm starting to learn all the functions of a dSLR. Hopefully after that, I'll be able to frame my subjects in more interesting shots. I own a Panasonic Fz50.
Gourmet delight
I'm a big food fan. I love trying out new cultures' recipies. I'm not compelled to just the typical steak, potatoes and greens. I enjoy eating Greek, Indian, Filippino, Vietnamese, and my favorite of the bunch, Japanese. I do my best to eat out at different restaurants at least once a week.
Button smasher
From my first game of Duck Hunt on the NES to swinging around my wiimote to fend off those rather annoying vultures in Twilight Princess, I've been around the block for a long time. Though I haven't actually played much for 4 months now, I find playing videos really...stress relieving, up until the point I get stuck in a game - which really defeats the purpose of me playing.
Overall
So pretty much, I do much more than look at a screen all day. I'm pretty active and I'm open to trying out new stuff, especially if it's food. Though this is just a quick peek at my life, those are the biggest key pointers about me. Never be afraid to try out something new, it might just end up being a big interest to you.
